The Nike Orion is a two stage rocket motor system. The Nike burns for about 3.5 seconds and has a thrust in this configuration of 20g reaching a velocity of 1700 km/h. At burnout out the drag separation system separates the Nike from the Orion. Nine seconds into the flight the Orion ignites carrying the CWAS payload to sampling altitudes.
