Canadian Auroral Network for the OPEN Program Study (CANOPUS)
The Canadian Auroral Network for the OPEN Program Study (CANOPUS) is Canada's contribution to the International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Program (ISTP). It was accepted as an experiment in the NASA-Japanese Global Geoscience Study (GGS), a three-satellite component of ISTP. CANOPUS is set up to operate like one of the satellites and ranks on an equal footing with about 40 experiments on the spacecrafts. CANOPUS is also a means of collecting ground-based information for both self-contained auroral research, and for joint research ventures with other national and international projects. Approximately 30 Canadian scientists from universities and government establishments participate in CANOPUS.
