The Saskatchewan Atlas Project

The first edition of the Atlas of Saskatchewan, published in 1969, is being revised and updated under the direction of Professor Ka-iu Fung, assisted by Professors Lawrence Martz and Michael Wilson. All are members of the Department of Geography at the University of Saskatchewan. The computer cartographer for the Atlas project is Mr. Gerald Romme. A large number of scientists, scholars, public and private agencies from throughout Saskatchewan are contributing to the content of the Atlas. This new Atlas will provide a comprehensive view of the province, depicting its historical, physical, demographic, economic, social-cultural, and political characteristics.

The new Atlas will be produced initially in book form, followed by interactive multi-media formats, using state-of -the-art digital cartography and information technology. The dynamic and interactive information in the Atlas will be useful to schools, colleges, universities, libraries, business, industry, government agencies, and the general public in Saskatchewan, and consumers in other parts of Canada and worldwide. The geographically organized information database of the Atlas will be updated on an on-going basis, and it will be readily available as a basic reference tool for educators and administrators, as well as a promotional tool for business and tourism.

The planned completion date for the book Atlas is mid-1999, and the multi-media products in the year 2000 - the 95th birthday of Saskatchewan.
