Differential maps of ionospheric TEC present variations of the ionosphere from quiet-time variations. In each differential map, a representive quiet-time GIM is subtracted from a storm-time GIM, and the percent change in total electron content is displayed as a function of global position. In a sequence of differential maps, variations in the motion, expansion, and intensity of disturbed regions may be readily identified.
