Exchanging Files with Previous Versions ------------------------------------------ Previous versions of Quattro Pro used the .WB1 file extension. If you create a file in this version (.WB2) and wish to use it in a previous version, use the File | Save As command and set the "Save File as Type:" option to "QPW(*.WB1)", change the file name to XXXXXXXX.WB1 and click OK. If you always want to use .WB1 files (i.e., you have a mix of versions in your office), set the default application file extension to .WB1 by inspecting the application, choosing File Options, and set the File Extension to WB1. This will also work for other file types such as .WQ1. NOTE: In previous versions of Quattro Pro, the file format was determined by the extension given to the file name (e.g., XXXXXXXX.WB2). In this version, the file format is dependent on the "Save File As Type" option in the File | Save dialog box. Saving the file as a .WB1 file may result in a loss of some file characteristics because older versions do not support some of the new features. Information that is lost includes: wrap text, vertical alignment, text orientation, colored line drawing, page zoom factor, graphic locking protection, drawn notebook objects and block tool annotations on graphs. Floating marker graphs and 3D risers will be converted to bar graphs, bullet charts will be converted to text graphs and all new @ functions will be converted to values. 2. Installing Quattro Pro on a Network Server --------------------------------------------- To install Quattro Pro on a network server, 1. Insert Disk 1 in drive A or B. 2. Start Windows, then choose File | Run. 3. Type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL if you're using drive B) and choose OK. 4. Select Network, then choose Next. 5. Enter your name and company, then choose Next. 6. Specify the network directory where you want to install Quattro Pro, then choose Next. 7. Follow any instructions as they appear. For assistance, click the Help button. As you proceed through the installation, choose Next to continue or Exit to quit. Workstation Installation ------------------------ If you are upgrading your network server installation of Quattro Pro for Windows from release 6.00 or 6.01 to release 6.02, and your workstations run Windows locally and not from the network, you need to perform workstation installations of Quattro Pro for each user. If you are upgrading the stand-alone version of Quattro Pro, follow the instructions for running the Network Administration Setup program (QPWNET.EXE) and the Network User Setup program (QPWNODE.EXE) starting on page 710 of the Quattro Pro User's Guide. If you are upgrading a version of Quattro Pro for Windows that came with a previous version of this suite, follow the workstation installation instructions found in the Up and Running Guide. Note: Users should re-install only Quattro Pro; they do not need to re-install other suite applications. For additional information on installing and running Quattro Pro on a network, see the separate file README.NET. 3. Using 1-2-3 Menus and Macros ------------------------------- Included in Quattro Pro are 1-2-3 compatible menus that let you run 1-2-3 keystroke macros and display 1-2-3 menus using the slash key (/). The Slash Key setting in Quattro Pro controls which menu system displays when you press the slash key (/) from Ready mode. To display 1-2-3 menus when you press the slash key, 1. Right-click the Quattro Pro title bar, or choose Property | Application from the Property Band. 2. Choose Macro on the left side of the Application dialog box. 3. Choose Slash Key and select 1-2-3/R 2.01 from the list of options. 4. Choose OK. Now you can run keystroke macros written for 1-2-3 (release 2.x and 3.x) within Quattro Pro: choose Tools | Macro | Play from the Quattro Pro menu, or press the slash key (/) and choose Worksheet | Macro | Execute. Macros assigned to Alt keys in 1-2-3 run in Quattro Pro using the Ctrl key. 1-2-3 menus will display as the macro issues commands. For example, /GT displays the 1-2-3 menu's graph types. However, Quattro Pro dialog boxes will appear where appropriate. Note: Be alert when executing 1-2-3 macros containing {?} statements--you may want to change those statements to {MENUCALL} statements, and create macro menus for the corresponding 1-2-3 menu choices. This ensures that the macro will still run within 1-2-3. If Quattro Pro encounters a macro command that it cannot understand or that is not supported, an error message appears. 4. Using the 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant ---------------------------------------------- Included with this release of Quattro Pro is a notebook file named 123TOQPW.WB2 that converts keystroke macros from 1-2-3 (Release 2.01 through Release 2.4) to Quattro Pro's macro syntax. ****************************************************************** Your use of the 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant is governed by the terms of the Software License Agreement, Limited Warranty and Limitation of Liability that accompany your copy of Quattro Pro. 1-2-3 is a registered trademark of Lotus Development Corp. ****************************************************************** To use the 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant, follow these steps: 1. Open 123TOQPW.WB2 in Quattro Pro. It's a hidden macro notebook that adds an extra option under the Tools | Macro submenu. This option is called Translate, which can also be activated via a keyboard shortcut (ALT-F1). 2. Open the 1-2-3 file containing the macro(s) that you want to convert. 3. Choose Tools | Macro | Translate to begin the translation process. 4. In the Convert dialog box, specify the block (i.e., ranges) of macros you want to convert. 5. Check the Highlight unsupported macros checkbox (it is checked by default) if you want to highlight problem macros. Then, click on the OK button. If you checked Highlight unsupported macros, macros that could not be converted are highlighted with the following colors: Blue = contains macros not supported in Quattro Pro Red = contains unrecognized macros Purple = contains both unsupported and unrecognized macros Demonstration Files for the 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant ------------------------------------------------------------- The following demonstration files are installed in the Quattro Pro Samples directory (by default, C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLES): PRODDEV.WK1 1-2-3 spreadsheet application file PRODDEV.FMT 1-2-3 spreadsheet formatting file PRODDEV.WRI Conversion demonstration instructions This demonstration shows how a budget application (PRODDEV.WK1) created in 1-2-3 can be upgraded to run under Quattro Pro 6.0 for Windows. Read the PRODDEV.WRI file (a Windows Write file) for instructions. Specifications of the 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant ------------------------------------------------------- 1. The 1-2-3 Macro Translation Assistant will only translate 1-2-3 keystroke commands that start with a "/". 2. It will only translate full menu commands. For example, /G alone will not get translated as it only opens the graph menu, but it doesn't do any action in the graph menu. 3. Commands that are broken into more than one line will not be translated. For example, A1: /F A2: R This is equivalent to /File | Retrieve in 1-2-3, but the macro translation assistant will not translate it. The 1-2-3 command will be translated, if it were: A1: /FR 4. If you select to highlight unsupported commands it will highlight any "/" that it couldn't translate. So if you select a block that has text that contains a slash / in it, the Macro Translation Assistant will highlight that cell. 5. If you have text labels in the selected block that contain an identical character string found in a 1-2-3 menu command, it will be treated as a macro and translated. 6. /X commands are not translated because they are supported by Quattro Pro. 7. Self-modifying macros which concatenate menu commands will not be translated. 8. Macros that count on the user to input menu keystrokes will not be translated. These may work in some situations, but most 1-2-3 macros that use this method get a user to a certain menu (i.e., /G to the graph menu) and then allow the user to make a selection. This case would fail because of #2 above. 9. Macros which use other macro commands to navigate or answer the menus will not be translated. For example /{RIGHT 2}~ which takes the user to the 1-2-3 Copy menu option will not be translated. Tips 1. After you load the 1-2-3 file, if you have an autoload macro in it (i.e., \0), it might activate Quattro Pro menus. Press CTRL-BREAK while your file is being loaded to stop this macro from executing. 2. It is highly recommended to save your 1-2-3 file as a Quattro Pro .WB2 notebook prior to starting the translation process. It is also recommended that you keep a backup of your 1-2-3 file. 5. Importing Excel 5.0 Files ---------------------------- Quattro Pro now imports Excel version 5.0 files. To open an Excel version 5.0 file in Quattro Pro, 1. Choose File | Open. 2. Select the drive and directory containing the file to open. 3. Select Excel (*.XLS) in the List Files Of Type field. 4. Select the Excel file to open in the Filename list. 5. Click OK. 6. A message box asks if you want to open the file in read-only mode. Click Yes to open the file. IMPORTANT: Quattro Pro reads the Excel 5.0 file into memory. If you make changes to the data, choose File | Save As to save your changes to a new file. Quattro Pro imports the following Excel data: - Values and labels - Most cell formatting - Embedded charts - Links to different sheets or different files - Some functions - Arithmetic formulas - Chart sheets (they're converted to floating graphs) Quattro Pro doesn't import the following Excel data: - Excel macro sheets - OLE objects contained in Excel sheets Quattro Pro converts any Excel function that it doesn't support to a value, then shades it red. TIP: Make sure no cells in the Excel file are shaded red or contain red text before opening the file in Quattro Pro. Quattro Pro notebook pages support up to 8192 rows of data. If you try to open an Excel file with more than 8192 rows of data, the excess rows are not imported. 6. Compatibility with Quattro Pro for DOS ----------------------------------------- You must install Quattro Pro into a separate directory, leaving Quattro Pro for DOS undisturbed. We suggest you keep Quattro Pro for DOS on your hard disk while you're learning to use Quattro Pro. Before opening a file that was compressed with the Quattro Pro for DOS SQZ! feature, uncompress the file by saving it to a .WQ1 or .WQ2 (for version 5.0) extension within Quattro Pro for DOS. If you modify files created in Quattro Pro for DOS, you should save them in Quattro Pro with the .WB2 file extension so that all the Windows version specific information is saved also. This version of Quattro Pro can read the .WQ2 files from Quattro Pro for DOS 5.0 but it cannot write them. 7. Macro Compatibility Issues ----------------------------- Keystroke macros to gain access to menu items are no longer supported in Quattro Pro. You will need to record or re-write these macros using the appropriate Command Equivalent. For example, "{Alt+F}O", which used to perform File | Open will need to be changed to "{FileOpen?}". Once you are in a dialog, you can use keystrokes. For instance, the following scenario will still be available: {FileOpen!}{Alt+T}P{Alt+N}C:\PDOX{CR} These commands will bring up File | Open dialog, change the Filename search to C:\PDOX\*.DB and wait for user interaction. In addition, as long as the Application Property Macro | Slash Key is set to "Quattro Pro - DOS", you can still use DOS-based keystroke macros. If you plan to run Quattro Pro for DOS macros in Quattro Pro for Windows, you should be aware of various compatibility issues. You may need to edit macros that access hardware settings reached through the Quattro Pro for DOS /Options menus (/Options | Hardware, /Options | Display Mode, etc.). In Quattro Pro for Windows, these settings are all controlled through the Windows Control Panel. Also, you'll need to edit macros that access the Quattro Pro for DOS File Manager and Audit features. @CURVALUE statements in Quattro Pro for DOS will return a different value in Quattro Pro. Edit macros using these statements before you run them in Quattro Pro. For most purposes, you can use the @COMMAND or @PROPERTY functions in place of @CURVALUE. An error message will appear if Quattro Pro finds an unsupported macro command. The key reader is not available in this version of Quattro Pro for Windows. The following menu command properties can't be changed by {SETOBJECTPROPERTY}. /File commands, the Grayed property /Edit/Undo.Enabled, Title, and Grayed /Edit/Cut.Enabled and Grayed /Edit/Copy.Enabled and Grayed /Edit/Clear.Enabled and Grayed /Edit/Clear Values.Enabled and Grayed /Edit/Paste Special.Enabled and Grayed /Edit/Insert Break.Grayed /View/Panes.Grayed /View/Locked Titles.Grayed /Graphics commands, the Grayed property /Tools/Object Order.Enabled /Tools/Object Order/Bring Forward.Enabled /Tools/Object Order/Send Backward.Enabled /Tools/Object Order/Bring to Front.Enabled /Tools/Object Order/Send to Back.Enabled /Tools/Database Desktop.Enabled and Grayed /Tools/Database Tools/Table Query.Enabled and Grayed /Tools/Macro/Record.Title /Tools/Macro/Debugger.Title 8. OBEX Information ------------------- SETTINGS If you are running Windows in Standard mode, the VSHARE.386 file will not be loaded. If this is the case, you will need to use the SHARE.EXE command (in either your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or your CONFIG.SYS file) with the following parameters: SHARE /F:4096 /L:400 The /F parameter allocates file space for the DOS storage area used to record file-sharing information. The default value is 2048. The /L parameter sets the number of files that can be locked at one time. The default value is 20. The following note applies to Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11: With Novell NetWare the number of file handles is 40 by default. Microsoft recommends that this value be raised to 60. In your NET.CFG or SHELL.CFG file you should modify or add the following line: FILE HANDLES = 60 It is recommended that you modify your CONFIG.SYS file with the following: FILES = 60 60 is the suggested minimum. SHELL.CFG is used with NET3.COM, NET4.COM, and so on. NET.CFG is used with NETX.COM. If the appropriate .CFG file does not exist, it can be created in the root directory of the user's boot drive with any plain text editor or word processor used in non-document mode. WORKGROUP DESKTOP o Address Book If you install program files on a network, increase your network file handles to at least 100. Novell networks use the FILE HANDLES setting in the SHELL.CFG file. The default address book is installed with the Paradox ANSI Intl language driver. To create an address book with a language driver corresponding to the IDAPI.CFG setting, use MailBook (File | New) and mark the address book as the Current Book. When you enter a name in the Alias field of the Address Book Manager dialog box, do not enter names that use parentheses. To prevent users from making changes to a shared address book, use the Admin password. To prevent a shared address book from accidental deletion on an operating system level, mark all the files in the address book directory as read-only. o Transports If you use a user password in WPO/GroupWise (WPO/GroupWise:Remote requires a password), start WPO/GroupWise before polling OBEX. The MCI transport can compress attachments and publications based on a setting in the MCI account configuration dialog box in OBEX. When sending mail with attachments over MCI, make sure that compression is off (publications are automatically uncompressed upon receipt). To set up an MHS account using Novell's VLM, add the following statement to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file: SET MAIL=: To use either the Lotus Notes or the cc:Mail transport, the executable directory must be on the DOS path (e.g. C:\NOTES). VIM support is included with Lotus Notes 3.0 and later, and cc:Mail version 2.0 and later. If you have older versions of these products, it is recommended that you upgrade. 9. Database Desktop Information ------------------------------- Database Desktop uses a database engine called IDAPI (called ODAPI in previous releases of Quattro Pro) to access dBASE, Paradox, and SQL tables. The IDAPI configuration is stored in IDAPI.CFG. Quattro Pro merges your ODAPI settings with IDAPI.CFG. In previous versions, the ODAPI directory needed to be added to the PATH. You do NOT need to add IDAPI to the PATH. The Local Share option can now be disabled in the IDAPI Configuration Utility's System Manager (System page) unless you are running on a peer-peer network requiring local share to be on. If you have the Local Share option enabled and do not need it, you will see a reduction in performance. Avoid specifying PARADOX.DB as the answer table when processing a query. It will give the following error message: "Name is reserved. File: ... .VAL". When querying logical fields, the only values that evaluate to True are T, Y, True, or Yes. These can be either lowercase or uppercase. Any other value evaluates to False. QBE evaluates only the first character of any condition entered into a logical field. dBASE tables do not support BC dates, which are available in Database Desktop. 10. SQL Information ------------------- o ODBC Connectivity This release of IDAPI has been certified with Microsoft's 2.0 ODBC Driver Manager. If you have a different version of the ODBC Driver Manager, back up your existing ODBC.DLL and ODBCINST.DLL files and copy the ODBC.NEW and ODBCINST.NEW files from your IDAPI directory into your existing ODBC directory (by default this is WINDOWS\SYSTEM), and rename them to ODBC.DLL and ODBCINST.DLL. For information on how to create an ODBC driver connection and alias, search for "ODBC Driver Connection" in the IDAPI Configuration Utility online Help. o Tips For Using ODBC Socket This version of the ODBC Socket was qualified using Q+E's ODBC pack version 1.2. Driver-specific problems were discovered using the latest Btrieve driver. If using Btrieve, it is recommended you use the version 1.1 driver. This version of ODBC Socket is certified for use only with Binary (Byte-value) collation-based servers. When using pass-through SQL, case-sensitive object names should be enclosed in the DBMS identifier quote character. The driver description in the ODBC.INI must match the driver name exactly as found in ODBCINST.INI in order for the IDAPI Configuration Utility to add drivers to the IDAPI configuration file. ODBC does not support owner qualified indexes. When opening a table with an index, do not specify an owner name as part of the index name parameter. o ODBC Socket Datatype Identifiers The ODBC Socket supports standard ODBC datatype identifiers. For a list of those identifiers, refer to your ODBC documentation. Each individual ODBC driver allows you to create a table with only some of those datatype identifiers. For a list of driver-supported ODBC datatype identifiers, refer to your specific ODBC driver documentation. Intersolv/Q+E Issues: The Q+E Oracle driver does not allow copying an Oracle table to another Oracle table. This is a known problem and will be fixed in the next release of the Q+E ODBC driver pack. NetWare SQL: When specifying NetWare SQL BLOB\Memo fields it is necessary to specify a size <= 32765. The default of 32767 that is assumed by the driver is incorrect due to field header information. DB2/2 (Database Manager) does not support concatenation operators in queries. Btrieve: In some situations the Btrieve Record Manager causes the error message "Record Manager Not Loaded" to appear. Following this error message, exit Windows and restart. Btrieve is unstable after this message appears. 11. Printing Issues ------------------- If you encounter a memory problem on the printer while printing to a LaserJet, enable "Print TrueType As Graphics" in the options section of the printer setup dialog box. If you are receiving a "Printer Overrun" message on your LaserJet 4, you may need to change the "Graphics Mode" option from "HP-GL/2" to "Raster" in the printer setup dialog box. If you are encountering other printing problems, please check with the printer's manufacturer for any updated drivers. 12. Slide Show Transitions -------------------------- The "Fade out/Fade in" transition effect will not work in a slide show unless the driver and card you're using are VGA compliant. This transition effect will not generally run under 8514 emulations. 13. Mouse Movement and In-cell Editing -------------------------------------- When attempting to move a cell or block you may accidentally invoke in-cell editing. A work around for this problem is to alter your Control Panel | Mouse double click setting until you can work at the speed you like without invoking in-cell editing. 14. QuickTemplates ------------------ There is a set of Templates that is available when you choose File | New. The QuickTemplates are enabled by default but can be disabled by inspecting (right clicking) the Application Title Bar and choosing File Options | Enable QuickTemplates. For details, search for Enabling QuickTemplates in online help. NOTE: The QuickTemplates are only available from the File | New menu. They will not appear if you click the "Open Notebook" button on the Toolbar. 15. Using Multiple Currencies ----------------------------- You can format numbers as different currencies in the same notebook. For example, you can show one block of currency values in dollars and another block in pounds. To format the data in cells as currency values, 1. Select the cells you want to format, then right-click them. 2. Choose Block Properties to display the block Object Inspector. Numeric Format is already selected. 3. Click Currency. 4. Enter the number of decimal places. 5. Select the country whose currency symbol you want to use. 6. Choose OK. To change the default currency symbol, right-click the Quattro Pro title bar and choose International. Then select Currency in the Selection group. 16. Using the Navigate Button ----------------------------- The Navigate button in the input line helps you use block names in formulas or go to a named block in the notebook. To display a list of block names while writing or editing a formula, click the Navigate button in the input line. A drop-down list of block names appears. Note: The Navigate button is active when one or more blocks have been named in the notebook. In Edit mode the Navigate button is active when the insertion point is to the right of an operator or open parenthesis. 17. Spell Checker Supplemental Dictionary ----------------------------------------- Quattro Pro and WordPerfect can share a common supplemental dictionary for spell checking. Supplemental dictionary filenames end with the .SUP extension. Previous versions of Quattro Pro created user dictionary files with a .DCT filename extension. To integrate the information contained in the old user dictionary file into the new supplementary dictonary file, 1. Choose Tools | Spell Check. 2. Click Options. 3. Click Choose New Dictionary. 4. Select an old user dictionary file (one ending with the extension .DCT), and choose OK. 5. A dialog appears asking if you'd like to add words from the old user dictonary file into your current supplemental dictionary. Click Yes. See pages 66-67 of the Quattro Pro User's Guide for more information on using the Spell Checker. 18. WordPerfect File Dialogs ---------------------------- Quattro Pro can be configured to use WordPerfect File dialogs for File | Open, File | Save, and File | Save As. This feature can be turned off/on by inspecting (right-clicking) the Application Title bar, selecting File Options, and then clicking on the WordPerfect File dialogs check box. These dialogs can only be utilized if you have WordPerfect Shared Code version 2.3 or higher. If you turn this feature on and perform one of the above operations, but you are not presented with the WordPerfect File dialogs, you do not have a recent version of Shared Code. WordPerfect 6.1 and Presentations 3.0 both use/install versions of Shared Code (2.3) that Quattro Pro is also able to use. 19. Optimizing on Low Memory Systems ------------------------------------ On systems with 4MB of RAM, Quattro Pro can run slowly if the memory is not configured correctly. The performance difference between a well-configured system and a poorly configured one can be dramatic. Symptoms of poor memory configuration include long startup times (longer than one minute) and delays responding to commands and loading files. 20. Help with Quattro Pro ------------------------- If you need help with Quattro Pro, please read this file, use the online help, or refer to the User's Guide. Also, the Experts and the Coaches found on the Help Menu can help you to perform specific tasks such as printing, entering data, using analysis tools, scenario management, and others. If you're having printing or screen problems, contact the manufacturer of your printer or screen driver for an updated driver. 21. Linking Syntax for Quattro Pro Objects Used in Other Applications -------------------------------------------------------- You can create links to Quattro Pro objects in other container applications (such as WordPerfect). Once a link is created, you can change the link by designating a different Quattro Pro object. Use the following linking syntax: [notebook name]![block or graph]![sub-item] Note: The exclamation point (!) is used as a separator. Other valid separators are "\" , "[" or "/". You can create links to the following Quattro Pro objects: - Entire notebooks - Notebook blocks (using a block name or block syntax) - Embedded OLE objects - Graphs - Graph OLE annotations Here are some examples: Entire notebooks: C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2 C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!* These two links are identical. Notebook blocks: C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!BLOCKNAME C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!A:A1..B10 Embedded OLE objects: C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!A:Embedded1 The embedded name is: [PageName]:[EmbeddedName]; page A is assumed. Graphs: C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!Graph1 C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!Graph1!* These two links are identical. Graph OLE annotations: C:\OFFICE\QPW\SAMPLE.WB2!Graph1!_100 The OLE object name starts with an underscore character (_) followed by the object ID. 22. User's Guide Corrections ---------------------------- Please review the following changes and note them on the appropriate pages of your User's Guide: page 494 -------- @CHIINV is spelled incorrectly. pages 519 and 705 ----------------- A new macro, {Application.Country_Settings}, should be listed on these pages. The syntax for the macro is {Application.Country_Settings "Symbol, Prefix|Suffix, Country"} {Application.Country_Settings} sets the type of currency symbol and its placement before or after values for a particular country. It replaces the following Quattro Pro macros: {Application.International.Currency_Symbol} {Application.International.Placement} pages 520 and 705 ----------------- The correct syntax of the {Application.File_Options} macro is {Application.File_Options "StartupDir, AutoFile, FileExt, AutoBackup?(Yes|No), AutoBackupTime, FullPathTitles?(Yes|No), UseWPDialogs?(Yes|No), QuickTemplates?(Yes|No)"} The separate macro command for the Enable QuickTemplates option is: {Application.File_Options.QuickTemplates Yes|No} For more details, search for {Application.File_Options} in online help. pages 520 and 704 ----------------- The correct syntax of the {Application.International} macro is {Application.International ", Currency, , Negative, Punctuation, DateFmt, TimeFmt, Language, Conversion, Country"} pages 523 and 690 ---------------- The correct syntax of the {FileNew} macro is {FileNew } where TemplateName is an optional argument used to specify a template on which to base the new notebook. For details, search for {FileNew} in online help. pages 525 and 692 ----------------- The correct syntax for the {InsertObject} macro (when inserting an object from a file) is {InsertObject Filename, , } page 527 -------- There is an additional option for the {OLE.Option} macro: {OLE.OpenEdit}. It's equivalent to Alt+double-clicking an OLE object to open it in the server application. Chapter 12: Global Properties: Preferences and Defaults ----------------------------------------------------- The Enable QuickTemplates option available in the Application | File Options property isn't described. For a description of how to enable or disable QuickTemplates when you choose File|New, search for Enabling QuickTemplates in online help.
