Python and IDL tooling major update

We have released significant updates to our data analysis libraries, along with brand new libraries for working with riometer data.

PyAuroraX and IDL-AuroraX updates

Both PyAuroraX and IDL-AuroraX have received major updates, including:

  • SMILE ASI support — Full support for downloading and analyzing data from the new SMILE all-sky imagers
  • Field of view (FoV) maps — The ability to generate field of view (FoV) maps for optical instruments
  • TREx ATM v2 support — Added support for version 2 of the TREx Auroral Transport Model, bringing new capabilities and improved outputs
  • Crib sheet additions — Many new and updated crib sheets

New: PyUCRio and IDL-UCRio

We are also excited to announce the release of PyUCRio and IDL-UCRio, which are new libraries for working with UCalgary SRS riometer data. These libraries support:

  • Legacy 30 MHz riometers — Access and analyze data from our long-running riometer network (since 1989!)
  • SWAN Hyper-Spectral Riometers (HSRs) — Full support for the new SWAN HSR instruments, which provide multi-frequency absorption measurements

Both libraries are available in Python and IDL, following the same patterns and conventions established by PyAuroraX and IDL-AuroraX.
