Introducing the AuroraX Real-Time Viewer
April 8, 2026
We are excited to announce the release of the AuroraX Real-Time Viewer, a new interactive web-based tool for monitoring auroral imagery in real-time. The viewer allows you to explore live feeds from scientific auroral cameras operated across the globe, providing an intuitive way to observe aurora activity as it happens. It also provides the ability to view real-time spacecraft locations, and real-time aurora-related space weather data provided by NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC).
Key features
- Live auroral imagery - Real-time feeds from multiple camera networks including TREx RGB, SMILE ASI (THEMIS ASI replacement), REGO, TREx Blue, TREx NIR, and AuroraMAX
- Mosaic overlays - SMILE ASI and TREx RGB network-wide mosaics projected onto the map in real-time
- Spacecraft tracking - Real-time satellite positions with orbital traces and field-aligned B-traces
- Space weather data - Live NOAA SWPC solar wind speed, Bz magnetic field measurements, Kp index, and the aurora forecast OVATION model output
- Customizable grid view - An additional drag-and-drop layout for arranging camera feeds into a personalized dashboard
We will continue to expand functionality of this new tool, prioritizing a better experience for mobile users. If you have a camera that you'd like included, please reach out to us!
Try it out on the AuroraX website.
